Properties Estimation: The chart of Properties Estimation methods

2011.6.15

Lecture note of Dr. Hiroshi Yamamoto

The best book for this purpose is "The Properties of Gases & Liquids". I summarize this book with this chart.

From the point of methodology, groups contribution method and principle of corresponding states are very popular. The groups contribution method count type of functional groups(FGs) and numbers that compose molecule. And give group factor for FGs then calculate properties. Surrounded by Square shape of properties are calculated by this method. The principle of corresponding states method calculate properties from critical point (Tc: critical temperature, Pc: critical pressure, Vc: critical volume). At the Critical point, molecular interaction degree become almost same, and temperature dependent properties can estimate from the deviation from critical point. It is very convenient method. Surrounded by Oval. Sometime it use Boiling point and acentric factor.

The most important properties are Boiling point and density, then Critical properties.

Critical pressure (Pc)

Critical Volume (Vc)
